A castle dedicated entirely to the art of glass
Entirely dedicated to the art of glass, the Vitromusée Romont preserves and presents important collections combining stained glass, reverse painting on glass, glass objects and graphic works, as well as tools and materials associated with glass processing. With over 14'000 works, all facets of glass art, from Antiquity to the present day, are represented, making Château de Romont unique in Switzerland.
Living culture
The Vitromusée Romont is committed to a living culture, developing innovative cultural mediation programs at the interface between the transmission of knowledge, creative experience and sharing, and is thus committed to preserving and transmitting the history of an exceptionally rich heritage to a diverse public.
The Vitromusée Romont was inaugurated in 1981 in the Savoyard wing of Romont Castle. The castle, dating back to the Middle Ages, is a perfect setting for the Swiss Museum of Stained Glass and Glass Art. Throughout the year, various guided tours can be booked for groups: www.vitromusee.ch/en/guided-tours/
Activities for children
In the children's area, young visitors can familiarize themselves with glass by creating their own artwork. The activities on offer are aimed at children working alone under the supervision of an adult, and classes or groups of children, who will be guided by one or two cultural mediators.
Upon reservation, children can also celebrate their birthday at the museum (creative activity with a cultural mediator, followed by a snack).
The museum is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
The Vitromusée Romont is committed to inclusive culture and offers a special programme for the visually impaired. The “Tactile Experience” will introduce you to the fascinating world of glass art in a unique way over the course of 60 minutes. Guided by Swiss glass artist Magali Kocher, this experience will take you into a rich artistic universe full of surprises. The sense of touch will enable you to grasp different types of glass and working techniques, while the copy of a work from the permanent collection of the Vitromusée Romont, created by the Blindenschule Zollikofen, will help us explore the secrets of stained glass art from the early 20th-century.
