Sargans Castle

Sargans, SG

Sargans Castle, perched on a rock above the old town of Sargans, takes visitors on a journey back to the 13th century. In the castle tower, a museum tells the history of the region. In the historic rooms you can eat, drink and have a pleasant time.

A strong fortress

Sargans Castle, already mentioned in documents as far back as the 13th century, has belonged to the local community of Sargans since 1899. The historic castle houses an important museum of regional history and culture in its tower. Meetings and celebrations have taken place in the historic courtroom (popularly known as the Knights' Hall) for centuries.

A journey of discovery into the Middle Ages

The Sarganserland Museum is housed in the tower of Sargans Castle. Spread over six floors, here you can discover so many interesting facts about the history, sights and customs of the Sarganserland region.

Young visitors - and the young at heart - can follow the new children's trail. If you have sharp detective skills, you can dive right in, try on a knight's helmet, make a flag or dress up in medieval costume. Count Jörg and Countess Anna, the last nobles to have lived in the 15th century castle, will accompany visitors through the 15 exciting stations as they make discoveries, laugh, try new experiences and are amazed.

The Sarganserland Regional Museum and Sargans Castle can be explored individually or as part of a guided tour (registration at the museum ticket office). A stroll through the picturesque little town of Sargans is the perfect accompaniment to a visit to the castle! The little narrow streets below the castle are very close by and boast a variety of places to eat in a unique atmosphere.
