Lenzburg Castle
Lenzburg, AG
Lenzburg Castle is one of the oldest and most beautiful hilltop castles in Switzerland. The castle of knights and dragons is known for its lovingly staged rooms, exhibitions – and, of course, Fauchi the castle dragon.
The castle of knights and dragons
As you cross the drawbridge of Lenzburg Castle you will go back 1'000 years in time. Counts, knights, Bernese bailiffs and even American families all left their mark here. The Domestic Life Museum with its dressed rooms impressively showcases the castle’s living spaces: from the late Middle Ages through the Renaissance and Baroque period to the 20th century. Exhibitions illustrate the life of aristocratic families and knights in the Middle Ages. And in the prison, the cries of crooks and outlaws can still be heard.
Children's museum
The children's museum is housed in the attic of the bailiffs’ lodgings. Young castle visitors can do arts and crafts here, dress up as knights or as princesses and discover hidden staircases and oriels. Have an unforgettable visit with Fauchi: the braver ones may be daring enough to visit the dragon of Lenzburg Castle in its cave…
Guided tours, workshops and events
Museum Aargau offers guided tours and workshops in Lenzburg Castle. For example, Lady Mildred, great-great-aunt of King Charles III of England, invites you to have tea. School classes can learn interesting facts about life in the Middle Ages and the start of the modern era. Groups and teams can cook food over an open fire just like in the Middle Ages.
Fancy a new adventure? Then book a Foxtrail, a scavenger hunt full of surprises through the town and the castle. Lenzburg Castle is also known for its festivals and events such as the medieval market and the festival of Fauchi the dragon.
